Charity car wash raises £520 for Demelza
A charity car wash was held on Tuesday 24th July outside Axis’ Basildon office to help raise funds for Demelza Children’s Hospice.
More than eighty cars were washed and polished by Basildon’s Castlepoint, Estuary, Gas and Swan teams who rolled up their sleeves and volunteered their time to hold the charitable event that took place from 7:30am to 5:15pm.
Local businesses, Axis operatives and Sub-contractors came along and showed their support by bringing their cars and vans to the Phoenix Business Park where the office is situated. More than 300 flyers and posters were distributed around the surrounding areas to promote the event which was organised by Axis’ Estuary and Castlepoint contract teams.
The event also provided an opportunity for people in the community to meet Axis people and raise awareness of Axis’ nominated charity, Demelza.
Demelza Children’s Hospice supports children and young people who are not expected to reach adulthood, and offers support to their families. Demelza provides the necessary short breaks and a range of specialist services benefiting the children and young people themselves and their wider family, which are not available elsewhere as there is no government funding for this type of charity.
Axis’ Caroline Forway who organised the event says: “We all had a fantastic time from start to finish. There was a constant flow of cars and vans from the public and neighbouring businesses all wishing to contribute to the fabulous £500+ we made on the day. At times it was a bit manic and some of us left that day with only the vision of a hot bath and an early night in mind but knowing that it was going to a great cause made it all the more worthwhile. Fantastic team effort!”
