Axis Foundation wins business charity award!

The Axis Foundation has won a prestigious and highly-contested prize; the Corporate Foundation category of the Business Charity Awards.

Our entry into the awards was one of a number of ways that the Axis Foundation was marking a major milestone, donating over £1m to 110 small, local and impactful causes. Little did we know that the judges would be as excited about what’s been achieved in our eight-year journey as we are!

The Business Charity awards, which are sponsored by Third Sector, recognise the outstanding support made by UK businesses to charities and voluntary organisations.

Amongst larger companies like Credit Suisse and Price Waterhouse Cooper, who are doing fantastic work through their Foundations, our little charity was selected for the award.

What the judges said:

“The passion behind this foundation really shines through”
“The incremental growth of this foundation is impressive, and shows innovation to maintain momentum and engagement across nearly 10 years”
“Good employee involvement  – both in terms of fundraising and in involvement with supported charities. There’s a good mix of funding – from corporate donations, to events, to staff fundraising.
“The £1m donated figure is worth celebrating and a good way to demonstrate the impact of the Foundation.”
“Axis are rightly proud of what they have achieved. The support of local causes fits well with the company’s purpose. It was good to see the corporate donation broken out versus events and staff fundraising.
It feels like they are on a very positive journey.

Accepting the award, Charity Chairman Peter Varney said: “This is not only a nod to the value of our charity’s activity and purpose, but a lovely way to show recognition to everyone that has helped us along the way.

The Foundation’s focus is on offering charities and the people in their care a hand-up rather than a hand-out, to ensure that benefits are sustainable and long lasting. Our funding has provided care for those with life limiting illnesses, mobility for people without it, reduced crime rates via youth engagement programmes and contributed to life saving medical research.

Axis CEO and Foundation Trustee John Hayes said: “I am so happy and proud. Not just about this Award but everything the Foundation has achieved and how many people have supported us raising money and helped to identify the great causes we fund.

“I set the Foundation up originally to try and formalise and capture all the elements of “giving” that Axis were doing right across the company. To say it has exceeded my wildest expectations would be a massive understatement. What is really exciting is that we are growing all the time and giving more to people and causes in the communities we work, identified by the kind caring people at Axis.”
