Project: Donation to BARN

BARN (Bromsgrove and Redditch Network) is a small charity which runs a local Volunteer Centre and helps support the voluntary and community sector. They have recently taken over Bromsgrove Urban and Rural Transport (BURT), a community minibus which makes about 6,000 journeys a year, transporting the elderly, those with dementia or those who are isolated or need respite from caring. Other passengers have mobility issues and cannot use public transport. Without the minibus many would be completely isolated.

BURT helps people get to dementia clubs, fitness classes for people with disabilities, life-after-stroke sessions, social activities and friendship groups, or sometimes just to enables clients to shop. The current minibus though is old and unreliable. It is leased from Worcestershire County Council, but its constant need for repair is causing cancellations, and preventing BURT from expanding the service.

The Axis Foundation’s donation of £5000 will go towards the purchase of a new minibus so that BURT can not only continue its great work with passengers, but also help many more to their destinations.

Project feedback...

“This will make such a huge difference to so many people,” Gary Roskell, who runs the charity, commented. “BURT is more than just a transport service. For our users we’re a lifeline, and it is heartbreaking when we have to cancel journeys because our current minibus has broken down again. We can’t thank the Axis Foundation enough for this.”
